Disappointing
Arnel Pineda's voice was fine, but it was hard to be certain as the sound quality for The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show's set had gone wrong somehow. The band went off into too many random, lengthy solos. He didn't seem to connect with the audience, just yelling "San Francisco" every now and again didn't really help. Maybe the set picked up right at the end, but we missed the last 3 numbers in favor of snagging a spot on the Caltrain back down the peninsula. To me though, I'm not an original members purist. They seemed to rely on Neil Schon (?) & mentioning Steve Perry to pull in the fans. If you didn't know them, then you wouldn't be able to make them out. This is a rating for The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show only - Def Leppard & Foreigner were 5 stars all the way. I understand that's not usually sustainable over such a long time. Not even the lure of "Don't Stop Believin'" could keep us there, and there were significant numbers leaving all around us.
